Cask 88, as you know, is the home of rare and old whisky, so it would be amiss of us, on International Women’s Day, not to reflect on the huge influence and impact that women have had in the world of Whisky.

Recent high profile releases of Jane Walker (and it’s following controversy), and Compass Box’s new limited edition whisky Hedonism: The Muse, to mark the growing number of women in its workforce, are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to contemplating the sheer influence that women have in the industry.

A no-age-statement blended grain whisky, with ‘even greater depth and intensity’ than the original bottling, Hedonism: The Muse is bottled at 53.3% abv – the exact percentage of women employed in the Compass Box business.

Roles that have historically been dominated by men, such as Master Distiller, Distillery Manager, Product Development and Brand Ambassadors are now more than ever being fulfilled by women. Although more is yet to be done as reflected by the #OurWhisky social media campaign, led by 2 of the whisky industry’s leading women Becky Paskin and Georgie Bell. The campaign is designed to dispel common myths of who whisky drinkers are by asking whisky lovers all over the world to take a photo of themselves that illustrates how they like to drink whisky, post it on social media with the tags @OurWhisky and #OurWhisky in order to ‘join the movement’.

Cask 88 is proud to say that it too reflects this positive change, with women holding key roles in senior management across the company.
